I Cry Alone

from Upside Out by Coincidence Machine

/

about

Very Bob Dylanish in lyric and structure (he's a fav of mine), though musically not. I use the same classical guitar style approach to the bass as in "Green River". This is also another one that Matt sings lead on. The first time we playing it he commented on what a great song he thought it was, so I said "Why don't you sing it, then?" I had enough to concentrate on.

lyrics

Everybody’s smilin’ at each other
Everybody’s smilin’ at themselves
But if I smile at you
I smile alone

Everybody’s cryin’ over their misfortune
Everybody’s cryin’ over their pain
But if I cry for you
I cry alone

Everybody’s dyin’ to get to heaven
Everybody’s dyin’ to avoid this hell
But if I die for you
I die alone
